Anthony Fletcher, a journalist at the European Service Network (ESN) plans to publish an article on our OPENGENE Project.

ESN is a contractor that produces editorial content for the European Commission to help FP7-funded projects publicise their achievements and work. The publication will be published on the DG Research Innovation website.

Geneforum of 2012 will be held on 8th-9th of June 2011 in Tartu.


Gene Forum 2011 (June 10-11, 2011) brought together experts from the field of genetics and in particular, on interdisciplinary areas within human genetics, epigenetics, modern population genetics, biomedical informatics and personal medicine. The conference incorporated also an exhibition aimed at the biotechnology-related companies. The total number of participants was 211 and number of speakers 17 from Estonia, Europe, USA, Singapore and Taiwan.

The registration to 2nd OPENGENE Workshop is open from 16th of May till 22nd of June. During registration, abstract should be submitted. The Selection Committee will make decision on 22nd of June 2011, who is selected to the workshop. Max. number of participants is 25.

Estonian Genome Center will organize International ethics conference “From informed consent to no consent? The challenges of new ethical frameworks” together with the Centre for Ethics of the University of Tartu.
 

The confernece will take place in Tartu, Estonia on November 4 – 6, 2010 and will be funded from EGCUT grant OPENGENE, Graduate School of Biomedicine and Biotechnology and the Doctoral School of Behavioural, Social and Health Sciences.

SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOW OF HUMAN GENETICS

Structural unit: Estonian Genome Center
Duties and responsibilities: Development of a strong, independent research program, which will be sustainable in future at international level. Estonian Genome Project, University of Tartu will offer competitive and interesting research opportunities using Estonian Genome Center databases; research laboratory based on modern gene technology; active collaboration with international research centres. Work load: Full time (1,0) (40 hours per week)
Term of contract: 01.12.2010 – 30.11.2012
Current position holder: New position
Salary: Remuneration based on FP7 grant OpenGene (#245536) rules, the monthly bruto salary is 3 900 EUR. Remuneration will be regulated according to the UT salary rules.
Required qualifications: Doctor’s degree or equivalent to this qualification. See also: requirements for the position of Senior Research Fellow
Required experience: Experience in an R&D institution for at least 3 years after defending PhD. Research publications - at least 5 articles in last 5 years. The candidate should be motivated and capable developing for independent investigation theme – and group. Applicant should be successful in applying and executing international research grant.

 23.02.2010 EGCUT has finalized the public tender procedure to acquire an Illumina iScan system for large scale genome analysis.
   
 01.12.2009            The European Commission approved the Estonian Genome Centre’s (EGC) REGPOT grant application OPENGENE.

The aim of the FP7 project is to open the resources of the Estonian Genome Center to the European Research Area and concurrently increase the research potential of EGC. The duration of the project is 3 years and there are three main tasks to be accomplished.
The first task is to purchase an Illumina iScan system. The second task is to strengthen human capital in the region by recruiting experienced researchers from abroad and exchanging ideas and researchers at different levels with other European universities, institutes and laboratories. The plan includes also organizing of three international workshops on genomics, biobanking and related fields.
The third task of the grant is to increase the visibility of the EGCUT among scientists, research partners and the Estonian people.
