International training course "Medical Bioinformatics" will be held in Tartu, September 26-28

A three-day training course from genomics to bioinformatics will be held at the Biomedicum of the University of Tartu, September 26-28.  The course will be organized by the PhD School of Clinical Medicine of the University of Tartu and by the Center of Translational Genomics established with the support of the University of Tartu Development Fund.

This is a combined course bringing together clinical medicine and genomics, aimed at the Ph.D students and researchers with medical background mainly. The aim of the three-day intensive course is to introduce new trends in analysing the data obtained from medical research in order to assess the risk factors found in genes. The focus is on ordinary genotype-phenotype, but also gene environment models and genome-based research, planning and carrying out the research and processing the obtained data. In addition to lectures, the course also covers various practical activities and gives the participants experience and knowledge of how to resolve important issues in clinical research with the help of genomics – to find new causes and methods of treatment of diseases. The lecturers are Leo Schalkwyk and Gerome Breen from the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London and Sulev Kõks and Ene Reimann from the University of Tartu.
